Before you decide
The questions people
actually ask.
What is a clinical study?
A research study that evaluates a treatment under a written protocol. Every protocol is reviewed and approved by an independent ethics board (IRB) before a single participant is enrolled, and the study team follows it visit by visit.
Does taking part cost me anything?
Study visits and study procedures are provided at no cost to you, and no insurance is required to participate. What each study covers, including the investigational medication, is written in its consent form, which you review before agreeing to anything.
Who oversees my safety?
A licensed physician serves as principal investigator and is responsible for your care throughout the study. An independent IRB reviews the protocol before it starts and continues to oversee it, and every visit is documented under continuous medical supervision.
Will I be paid?
Studies that offer compensation pay for your time and travel, not for taking a medication. The exact amount and schedule are written in the consent form for that specific study, and you review it before agreeing to anything.
Can I leave once I have started?
Yes, at any time and for any reason. Participation is voluntary from the first visit to the last; withdrawing does not affect your regular medical care and you do not have to explain your decision.
What happens to my personal information?
Your records are kept confidential and handled under HIPAA. Data shared with a study sponsor is coded, and your name is not used in any published result.
